Posted: 25 Sep 2010 Hello, new here, our cat has now brought two of these babies into the house, both dead unfortunatly. We would like to try and find where she is getting them from, and stop her. We live in Norfolk close to a small river on a housing estate. Any help would be great please. Also is it usual for there to be babies around at this time of year? |

Posted: 26 Sep 2010 hi how lucky to have them in and around your garden. female grass snakes lay eggs in warm places like compost heaps in early summer. the eggs incubate throughout the summer and then hatch out around sept. now is exactly the time to see babies around and they will be feeding ready for hibernating next month. it sounds like there is an egg laying site near by - compost heap/manure pile etc. not sure what you can do to stop the cat from catching them though. tim |
